Description:
A peer-reviewed academic journal whose purpose is to provide an international forum promoting a better understanding of music in all its aspects. In particular, the journal aims to provide communication and debate among scholars working in the field of systematic and experienced musicology. The debate is supported by the publication of commentaries on scientific articles.
The journal publishes original scientific articles, commentaries, editorials, reviews, interviews, letters and various information support. The journal’s topics include music history, performance, theory, education, and individual works—with an emphasis on systematic methods such as hypothetical testing, modeling, and controlled observation. Materials related to social, political, cultural and economic phenomena are also welcome. Theoretical and speculative papers are welcome if they contribute to the formation of empirically testable hypotheses, models and theories or provide criticism of methodology.
The magazine was founded in 2004 by David Huron and David Butler, and has been published since 2006. This journal’s editorial process has pioneered the practice of “public peer review,” which is designed to promote academic dialogue and reward reviewers for engaging in that dialogue in a timely and meaningful manner.
